About Me

My photo
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
I live in the Brighton Heights Neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh PA and recently certified my yard as a wildlife habitat. please feel free to check out my Blog and I hope you enjoy it.When I first bought my property the house was in disrepair and the yard was nothing but dead grass over grown weeds and garbage. It is now a habitat that provides wildlife with the four basic requirements needed to thrive. These are food, clean water, cover from predators, and places to raise young. I have provided these in my small space and will continue to improve on these elements of my garden. I am also an artist and I get a lot of inspiration from my garden. I am fascinated with tiny houses and enjoy cooking and music. I have two adopted cats from a rescue, and I have a one eyed cat that was a stray and needed surgery so I took her in. They are all house cats so they do not tear up my wildlife habitat. They do enjoy sitting in the windows looking at the other animals that visit my yard.

Enjoying the wildlife.

I have been enjoying the wildlife that visits my habitat area. I never knew how many animals visit my pond and wildlife habitat. I go out at 3:30 in the morning and sit on the swing by the pond and see deer. rabbit, skunk, and many other wild animals. During the day I sit and watch the hummingbirds, Goldfinches, cardinals, monarchs and other bees birds and bugs. There are always new flowers opening and the fish keep me entertained. I have not seen my frog this year so maybe it found a new home or it died. I had him for 3 years and he always made it through the winter. The neighbor put a lock on her gate because kids kept breaking into my yard and destroyed a lot of pond plants and habitat area. I am saving to get a security camera system because they keep coming back and brag about breaking into the yard and killing fish or destroying things.
I have been spending a lot of time over at the church yard trying to fix it up. I removed a lot of Barberry bushes and dead trees. It is looking better than it has ever looked but still needs a lot of work.
I have also added a new lotus to the pond and it is getting ready to bloom. It is an East Lake Pink and will look good till my American lotus matures and gets to where it can bloom.
I have had quite a few water lilies open the last couple of weeks.

I pulled My pickerel weed and cattails last month to divide and share.

It looks like I am going to have a lot of milkweed seeds to share this year.
Prickly Pear cactus is in bloom.
The butterfly weed has grown to the size that it looks like a shrub instead of a flower.
The bee's love the milkweed
For years I have tried to get a photo of the hummingbirds but they are always to fast I finally got this shot. It is probably going to be the best photo I will ever get of them.
My Texas Dawn waterlily is getting ready to bloom again.
This is an east lake pink lotus that the nursery was going to throw out. I talked them into selling it to me real cheep and it has recovered and is doing great in my pond. I watch it every day in anticipation of seeing it bloom for me.
