Swamp Milkweed
Swamp Milkweed is a perennial that is hardy in zones 3 to 8, It is native to most of the Continental US and Eastern Canada. It likes full sun to partial shade and grows 4 to 6 feet. The pink with purple flowers have a long summer bloom period. This allows them to provide nectar for bees and butterflies after common milkweed blooms have faded. Swamp milkweed is non aggressive and is easy to start from seeds. The long lasting blooms are nice for cut flowers and have a subtle vanilla scent. It attracts buckeyes, bumblebees, eastern tiger swallowtails, giant swallowtails, hairstreaks, honey bees, hummingbird moths, hummingbirds, skippers, spicebush swallowtails and many more.
